Week 10 - Games - Hoops! & Save the Village!

Updated: Dec 5, 2019

Hoops!

After integrating the basketball game with the spirometer, adding progress bar, scoreboard, adding sound was this week's challenge.

Progress bar is required during the exhalation phase of the game. The duration of exhalation decides whether the ball will basket or not.

If the exhalation time is less than the required time, then the ball will not basket and will drop midway. This mimics the real-world scenario when a ball is shot with less power, the ball is not able to go towards the hoop and it falls mid-way.

So it is required to show a progress bar which shows how much exhalation has been done and how much is left for sufficient power to be given to the ball.

The second challenge was to add a scoreboard that displays the number of balls remaining at that level as well as the current score in the game.

Again, this is required to motivate the kid to score more in each round which can be done only by breathing correctly.

The third challenge was to add different sounds for various actions during the gameplay. For example, adding dribbling sounds when the ball dribbles while the kid holds their breath. The sound of the ball going through the hoop and clapping sounds when the basketball passes through the hoop to provide encouragement to the kids.

Next week is our final week and a lot still needs to be improved. We need to create trailers, demos, shift our working system from Oculus Go to Oculus Rift.

Save the Village!

This week’s task was to add a reward system to give incentives to children. On each successful attempt of extinguishing the fire, the child gets a point. On each unsuccessful attempt, no points are given.

This week’s another task was to make the environment immersive. To make water spray look emersive, the water particle system was a challenge. We eventually got through that.

Next week Challenges are to make a trailer, final demo, add sounds, develop a start and end scenes.

It was fun and a great experience building these games. We learnt a lot of things and hope these games help the children suffering with Cystic Fibrosis.
